The “Free to Play” Salon Series

Upcoming Salon

STATE OF PLAY

Sunday, November 17th 2:00pm-5:00pm ET
4 Hilltop Rd, Mendham NJ 07945

Join Salons for Life for our last salon of this season and possibly before our sabbatical! Our “graduation party” will be an in-person salon, “State of Play" with Caroline Strassberg, Chinese medicine practitioner, educator and therapeutic movement coach with 20+ years of training in numerous internal and external arts to promote fitness, creativity and longevity.

In the upcoming salon, we will start with a conversation about the approach of State of Play and then apply it first with guided gentle exploration of our joints, investigating mobility, shape and softness, as well as how these joints coordinate. The whole session will be active, but not rigorous and entirely self-paced with the built-in ability for each person to modulate the intensity of any given task. We will end with a conversation about the shared process we went through, of each person's experience of play, followed by sharing food and company. Come as you are with a willingness and openness to experiment and try something new with a kindred spirit!

What to bring:

Wear clothing that allows freedom of movement - to squat, lunge and get up and down from the floor.

More about the series

This year, our curatorial theme is Free to Play. 2024 is in the throes of local, national and global issues that will determine the future of our species, starting with humans. Multiple wars, the loss of reproductive rights for womxn, the loss of trans-rights, the rise of power hungry leadership in corporate and governmental entities, and rapidly-developing technology that has limited oversight and governance, that has implications on our lives at large. The experience at an individual human level– is an unknown future that has the globe feeling bound. Bound in our choices, bound in our freedom, bound in our fear, we see horrific images of places and people, near and far, suffering; at the behest of large scale policy, both in the public and private spheres. To address this, we want to create micro-spaces for our audience to show up and play. To unite in shared moments of laughter, bodily embodiment, reflection and space creation where it is safe and it is intentional.

With so much unknown and so many restrictions around us, SFL seeks to explore the alternative. We are not denying these present situations or feelings. Rather, the curatorial theme of, “Free to Play,” seeks alternate reactions to a chaotic world landscape. Like a curious child, we ask the question, what if there’s another way? Through the permission of play, we grant ourselves the opportunity to explore other ways of learning, listening, and living.
